Foreign Policy of the Obama Administration

International strategy of the Obama Administration Free Online Research Papers â€Å"There is an incredible exhalation of breath going on around the globe. We’ve got a ton of harm to repair.† This are the expressions of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, which I accept best depict the desires and the likewise the destinations of the new American President Barack Obama. There is no uncertainty that those, who followed the 2008 US Presidential Elections, have seen history really taking shape, since this occasion won't influence just the eventual fate of the US yet additionally of the whole universal scene. Be that as it may, what harm precisely is Hillary Clinton talking about? What are the fundamental worries of this Administration? Obviously the quick test of the Barack Obama is settling the Economical emergency. In any case, what I think to be one of the principle purposes behind which Obama was chosen is the change he guaranteed at a universal level. What he should confront first is the disagreeability of the US on the planet, disagreeability that speaks to an incredible mishap with regards to Foreign Affairs. This issue is best depicted by Madeline Albright, previous Secretary of State, who, when gotten some information about the picture of the US on the planet, stated: â€Å"I feel unequivocally about this nation, and what an excellent nation it is. However, I genuinely ponder as terrible as I’ve seen it†¦ I figure Iraq will stand out forever as the best calamity of American international strategy †more awful than Vietnam.† In his first major international strategy discourse of his crusade given on April 23, 2007 to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Obama depicted his international strategy objectives, stressing five key focuses: carrying a capable end to this war in Iraq and pulling together on the basic difficulties in the more extensive locale,; fabricating the primary genuinely 21st century military and indicating knowledge by they way we convey it,; marshaling a worldwide exertion to meet a danger that ascents over all others in criticalness †making sure about, annihilating, and halting the spread of weapons of mass pulverization,; remake and develop the unions and organizations important to address basic difficulties and stand up to normal dangers, and keeping in mind that America can help other people construct progressively secure social orders, we should always remember that solitary the residents of these countries can continue them. As we see terrific U.S. international strategy objectives will probably continue as before: The US will at present needs to dishearten security rivalry in Europe and Asia, forestall the development of threatening incredible forces, advance an increasingly open world economy, restrain the spread of weapons of mass decimation (WMD), and grow majority rules system and regard for human rights. Since 9/11 the crusade against worldwide fear based oppression has been the focal point of American outside and protection strategy and with Obama as Commander-in-boss we will observer an arrival to where it began, Afghanistan. Directly from his initial discourse, Obama, developing his international strategy, suggested that he planed to get under way the way toward pulling back from Iraq and keeping up the focus over the contention in Afghanistan. As one who believes himself to be a down to business with regards to international strategy, he expressed even as ahead of schedule as 2002, in a discourse, against the Iraq War, â€Å"I don’t restrict all wars†¦ What I am against is a moronic war†¦ a rash war, a war put together not with respect to reason however on enthusiasm, not on rule yet on politics†¦ I know likewise that Saddam represents no up and coming and direct danger to the United States, or to its neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is wrecked, that the Iraqi military is a small amount of its previous quality, and that working together with the universal network can be contained until, in the method of every insignificant tyrant, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I real ize that regardless of whether a fruitful war against Iraq will require a US control of unsure length, at dubious expense, with unsure consequences.† Obama accepts that the war was a vital bumble and restricted it from the earliest starting point: â€Å"This war diverts us from each danger that we face thus numerous open doors that we could seize. This war lessens our security, our remaining on the planet, our military, our economy, and the assets we have to stand up to the difficulties of the twenty-first century. By any measure, our resolute and open-finished spotlight on Iraq is anything but a sound technique for keeping America safe.† He is on record as needing to pull back US powers from Iraq inside 16 months. Given the lessening in viciousness in Iraq since the US ‘surge’ there has been more prominent duty of Iraqi undertakings moved to the Iraqi government themselves, this perhaps conceivable. Nonetheless, in light of the fact that it is a fragile circumstance any hurriedly pull back of US powers may demonstrate counter-profitable as there is the potential for viciousness on a significant scale to emit once more. As we said previously, while the quantity of US troops in Iraq will diminish, the number in Afghanistan will ascend as key choices will be made on re-organizations. The Afghanistan/Pakistan district is key to US interests. This problem area is of massive vital significance not exclusively to American security yet additionally to worldwide security. This region could likewise be viewed as a possible extension among South and Central Asia. Obama needs to concentrate American energies on the locale. This is obvious given his choice to visit Afghanistan before Iraq when he visited the Middle East in July 08. In a discourse made additionally in July 08 Obama expressed whenever chose president he would send more battle troops to Afghanistan, around 17,000, and center around preparing their security powers, increment the non-military help with request to change the attitudes and occupations of the populace with the expectation that the economy would develop. Also, in spite of the fact that he needs to change the US strategy on Pakistan by significantly increasing non-military guide to the nation and help manufacture a solid majority rule government which thus would help towards making sure about atomic weapons from fear based oppressors and maverick states. What Obama is attempting to get practiced in Afghanistan and Pakistan is the disturbance, destroying, and thrashing of al-Qaeda, the devastation of any al-Qaeda place of refuge, to ensure the Afghan government and to invigorate the ability of the Afghan security powers and government to improve the secure of their populace. There is likewise pressure among India and Pakistan who both have atomic weapons. This contention has been progressing since August 1947 when India and Pakistan were made from British India. Ongoing improvements in this contention include the Kashmir district with Pakistan controlling the northwest bit, India controlling the focal and southern segment and China controlling the northeastern part of Kashmir. The Obama Administration has gotten analysis in light of the absence of prompt enthusiasm for India, a considerable lot of the previous Bush Administration underlining the significance of having India as a partner in the locale and encouraging Obama to improve his relations toward the South-Asian state. Iran will likewise be high up on the plan for President Obama. In July 07 Obama said he would meet with the pioneers of Iran and other maverick states, for example, Syria and North Korea without pre-conditions. Presently this position has changed somewhat to meeting them simply after the correct basis has been built up and at once and spot based on his personal preference. It must be noted in any case, that the utilization of power against Iran has not been precluded by Obama yet he said that â€Å"it would be a significant misstep for us to start a war with Iran.† Discussing the plans he has for the circumstance in the more extensive Middle East, in his Foreign Affairs article in July/August 2007, Obama expressed that whenever chose President he needs an unmistakable and solid pledge to the security of Israel and distinguish and fortify the individuals who are focused on harmony and separate the individuals who look for strife and unsteadiness. Comparable to Syria, a comparable procedure to that of Iran will be sought after, that of strategy and weight. As to the issues among Israel and the Palestinians Obama communicated worry that Israeli settlements and destruction of Arab homes in East Jerusalem will hinder the harmony procedure. Along with Secretary of State Clinton he additionally continued building up a Palestinian express an answer supported by Israeli Foreign Minister and resistance pioneer to-be Tzipi Livni, yet not authorized by Prime Minister-assign Benjamin Netanyahu. Obama likewise criticized the refusal of the Holocaust and hostile to Semitism pronouncing: Six million Jews were killed more than the whole Jewish populace of Israel today. Denying that reality is unmerited, uninformed, and hateful†¦Threatening Israel with pulverization or rehashing despicable generalizations about Jews is profoundly off-base, and just serves to inspire in the psyches of Israelis this generally excruciating of recollections while forestalling the harmony that the individuals of this area merit. Obama accepts the US should work intimately with China and Russia to address the significant issues confronting the US as well as the world, environmental change and spread of atomic weapons. These issues are worldwide issues which require worldwide arrangements in this way working intimately with these significant forces is basic. Relations with China and Russia have been generally quiet since 9/11, anyway this may change sooner rather than later particularly with Russia given the ongoing conflicts with the US over Georgia and the Polish rocket barrier. The fundamental rules that ought to portray the US relations with Russia sooner rather than later are co-activity and discussion. The initial step worth referencing would be the way that Russia conceded its arrangement to put rockets on the Polish outskirt close Kaliningrad in the wake of being guaranteed by the Obama Administration that the previous plans of sending a rocket protection shield in Poland and the Czech Republic are being audited. Obviously, there still remain grounds on which the two â€Å"superpowers† wil

Essay Sample on Changing The Notions of Change

Paper Sample on Changing The Notions of Change Change is a continuous procedure that includes the shift of one state to another. In any case, the manner in which people react to that change is generally controlled by their point of view, of how they see and comprehend things just as their underlining mental, social and ideological developments. The procedure of progress might be unconstrained and it includes pre-change, impetus and results. In reading â€Å"Looking for Alibrandi† by Melina Marchetta, this idea of progress is formed as far as the focal character Josie’s experience and exercises. Not just that, this all inclusive subject is additionally noticeable in writings as different as â€Å"The Door† by Miroslav Holub, â€Å"American History X† by David McKenna, â€Å"My father started as a god† by Ian Mundie and â€Å"Student discovers edification in a grasp with her heritage†, an article out of the SMH composed by Cynthia Banham. On the whole, different writers use a scope of print ed shapes just as expressive methods to pass on the thoughts of progress. At first, the hero Josie of â€Å"LFA† takes a melancholic position towards her situation in the general public. Her brain science is influenced by her weakness and disarray towards her social character. â€Å"As far as the Italians were concerned, we weren’t totally one of them†¦We weren’t totally Australians.† The utilization of â€Å"we† carries the peruser closer to Josie by talking as though the responder has a place with her own social setting, hence accomplishing compassion. Josie’s recognitions and belief system is molded by her social foundation â€Å"At St Martha’sbrains didn’t consider a lot, cash notoriety and what your dad accomplished professionally counted†¦it causes me to feel that I will never be a piece of their society.† First individual portrayal is utilized in consistence with the admission style direct discourse which viably makes compassion as Josie never lies about her internal emotions. Being ill-conceived and having a place with a lower-working class, Josie’s belief system is firmly influenced by the microcosm of a rich school society. Her desirous tone passes on her self-discriminative emotions â€Å"Being stuck at a school commanded by rich individuals, rich parents†¦Anglo Saxon Australians who I cannot see as having an issue in the world.† As can be seen, Josie’s introductory befuddled point of view is adequately molded by her mental, social and ideological developments. Advancing from the pre-change stage, Josie faces numerous impetuses started without anyone else and outer impacts. Her first experience includes the passageway of Michael Andretti, her tragically deceased dad into her life. Notwithstanding, being ignored for a long time, she holds a commonly incensed and befuddled mentality towards his essence. Her indiscreet and irate tone exhibits this:† How might you venture to imagine that I need to be in your life!† This be that as it may, differentiations to a later occasion where she uses the outer impetus and starts it as her own after she looks for Michael’s help with the Carly Bishop struggle. At the point when Michael protects her, she concedes that â€Å"For a couple of moments I knew how it felt to stroll nearby one’s dad, it was an incredible feeling.† her tone changes as she is not, at this point confounded consequently indicating change, when self exacted may prompt positive outcomes. Another occasion which modifies Josie’s viewpoint is the yearly walkathon where she dismissed her obligations as the bad habit skipper of school to lead the youngsters. Her confession booth tone passes on that she is developing from the exercise â€Å"Deep down I realized I was wrong†¦I think my liberation started at that moment.† Later on the day, she additionally finds reality with regards to her captaincy that she was in truth casted a ballot the school commander. Her underlying negative view about her social standings in the school takes a positive turn â€Å"and I was casted a ballot the school commander. Socially we weren’t as crappy as we suspected we were.† Probably the most grounded impetus which impact Josie is those of John Barton’s demise. It viably goes about as the outcome of the novel, where the peak settle all the contentions. During the occasion Josie’s desirous point of view on the rich and fruitful is tested â€Å"How might he venture to murder himself when he’s never had any worries?† Her uneasiness is settled by her dad that â€Å"A individual doesn’t essentially must be glad since they have social standings and material riches, Josie.† John’s demise is terrible however it permits Josie to develop from her nað ¿ve ideological viewpoint on the rich microcosm of the general public. It very well may be in this manner contended that change, regardless of whether started without anyone else or outside powers will permit individuals to emphatically advance. Each change has its results. Josie’s befuddled point of view on her legacy is successfully settled by â€Å"I’m an Australian with Italian blood streaming quickly through my veins.† Her difference in tone additionally shows the difference in context when she at first ridicules religion by perusing a â€Å"hot pants† magazine in religion class. â€Å"It’s loaded with rubbish†¦do you imagine that they have a segment named â€Å"are you a decent Christian†?† the nað ¿ve and egotistical tone changes to a significantly more genuine and develop one â€Å"I’ll have confidence in god and I won’t let any congregation decides remove that from me.† To permit changes to be effectively detectable, Marchetta utilizes sequential portrayals where Josie’s life is told through the time of one year. â€Å"You know, a great thing transpired when I considered back my year, â€Å"one day† came on the grounds that I at long last understood.† Marchetta’s utilization of Intertexuality successfully features Josie’s liberation â€Å"I’m not seventeen any longer, the seventeen where Janis Ian sang about where one learns reality, yet what she neglected to make reference to is that you continuing learning certainties after seventeen and I need to continue learning facts until the day I die.† This hence passes on the thought that change is a progressing procedure, not simply from direct A toward B. Miroslav Holub’s verse â€Å"The Door† portrays the change as a procedure. The sonnet starts with the basic â€Å"Go and open the door† which effectively urge the responders to investigate change. â€Å"The door† represents the obstructions which encase and limit people’s point of view to those of present. It additionally represents a passage into another universe of potential outcomes to increase another point of view. The utilization of â€Å"Maybe† in italics and its reiteration passes on that change has no surenesses, however its outcomes are reliant on the person’s point of view and understandings â€Å"Maybe outside there’s a tree, a wood†. Nonetheless, the utilization of a hopeful tone convinces the peruser that â€Å"If there’s a mist, it will clear.† The utilization of metaphorical language portrays the most noticeably awful prospects of progress â€Å"even if there’s just the haziness tickl ing, even there is just the wailing wind† then forms to a peak with a reductive sentence structure â€Å"even if Nothing Is there† This method viably powers the responder to peruse more slow, until the last refrain, the coda which contains the subject of the sonnet â€Å"at least there’ll be a draught†. It shows that whatever the potential outcomes, regardless of whether positive or negative, individuals will at last profit by change. The comparative ideas are passed on in â€Å"LFA† where the procedure of Josie’s change starts with snags, however she can effectively grasp change in this manner guiding it to the best outcomes, seen through her liberations. Comparative ideas of progress are spoken to in the film â€Å"American History X†. The Protagonist Danny is sibling to the pioneer of an extremist group (D.O.C.), Derek who is detained for the murdering of a dark American. At first, Danny lives in an inconvenient piece of the America where racial pressure is wide spread. Normally, his mental, social and ideological development is based around white mastery over the ethnic gatherings. His preference sees in any case, fundamentally changes as Derek is discharged from jail years after the fact. His encounter with Danny depicts his involvement with the jail subsequently featuring that not one race is progressively predominant. There are numerous procedures in the film that shapes importance for change. The story, much like â€Å"LFA† is described in sequential request as an exposition. It viably shows the procedures of progress as sorted out and organized. It additionally permits the responders to observe the viewpoints of before â€Å"Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, those hazards are dirtying our wonderful country† and an after â€Å"we must be open minded of each other’s contrasts, what isolates us isn't the way of life, yet great and evil.† Symbolism of insignia is profoundly powerful in indicating Derek’s beginning extremist point of view towards the ethnics. In any case, later as he attempts frantically to wash it off, it stays as it was inked demonstrating Derek’s feelings of hatred for being an extremist. Changing point of view is clear in Danny’s demonstration of ripping the Nazi banners off his room, which represents his development away from the Nazi be lief system. Intertexuality is utilized to feature Danny’s change of point of view. Close to the finish of his film he cites from Abraham Lincoln to pass on his new points of view â€Å"We are not foes, yet companions, we should not be adversaries, however interests may have stressed, it must not break our obligations of warmth. The spiritualist ropes of memory will expand when again contacted as unquestionably they will be by the blessed messengers of our nature.† Technique of end result is employe

Ideally, you want 2-3 hours. I have had good success catching a nap after drinking one of the sleep-promoting drinks containing valerian or melatonin. If those supplements work for you, fine. If they dont work or you havent tried them, avoid them. No matter what, try to go into the evening as well-rested as possible.Enlist help.If you can, pull your all-nighter with a friend. This could even be an online friend  if that is easier.Make you r environment stimulating.Make it difficult to fall asleep. One helpful trick is to make it as cold as you can stand. It may help to listen to upbeat music or have a movie or television program on in the background to keep you entertained. Try either harsh, irritating music or else pick songs with lyrics and sing along out loud. Tap your feet and move around. If you find yourself dozing off, pinch yourself or rub an ice cube on your face.Avoid caffeine or use it strategically.Caffeine is a stimulant and it can help keep you awake, but you need to plan for the caffeine crash. Caffeine is short-lived in your system. You can expect it to help wake you up somewhere between 10-30 minutes after ingesting it. Youll get between half an hour and 1-1/2 hours of alertness from it. You could drink another cup of coffee or cola, but youll reach a point where your body either stops responding or else youll feel sick or jittery. On the plus side, caffeine is a natural diuretic, so youll need to ge t up to urinate more often. The activity can help keep you awake, providing you dont allow it to distract you.Nicotine and other stimulants can help keep you awake too, but now is not the time to get experimental. If you smoke or use nicotine, youll know what to expect. Otherwise, try to avoid drugs. Most stimulants will leave you more tired than if you made it through the night without them.ExerciseTake a break for a few minutes every hour. During that break, get up and move around. Maybe do some jumping jacks or pushups. If you raise your heart rate youll help to wake yourself up.Keep it bright.Your brain is hardwired to be awake during the daytime. Keep your surroundings as bright as possible to help keep yourself awake.Use fear.If you are genuinely frightened by scary movies or paranoid about unlocked doors or windows, then watch that movie or leave the building a little less secure than youd like. Make fear and paranoia into your allies.Eat right. You need energy to make it thro ugh the night, but that doesnt mean you need an all-you-can-eat buffet. On the contrary, some people do better staying awake if they are hungry. Ideally, eat small portions of high protein snacks. Nibbling on fresh fruit also is good. Save the pizza, burgers and fries for another time. More Tips To Pull an All-Nighter Drink ice water. The cold actually helps. Also, dehydration can make you sleepy.Apply a bit of menthol petrolatum or lip balm. The cold sensation is stimulating.Add spice to any food you eat. Hot peppers are an option.Set an alarm to go off every half an hour. Turning it off will signal a short break for you. If you fall asleep, at least you wont lose the whole night. If you complete your task early, get some sleep! Set your alarm, so you wont miss that important meeting or deadline and also so you can truly relax. Even an hour or two of rest can help recharge you so youll make it through the day. Things To Avoid Some things will sabotage your efforts to stay away or be productive. Avoid them! Dont drink alcohol. Its a central nervous system depressant that will slow you down even if it doesnt put you to sleep.Dont get comfortable. Avoid working in bed or on a comfortable chair or in a warm room. Dont listen to calming, soothing music. Any of these things can lead to an unintentional nap.Dont take a nap at night. Its too easy to stay asleep. If you have to do this, set a time limit and use a strong alarm to wake yourself up.Avoid eyestrain. If you wear contacts, you may want to take them out. If you are using a computer, turn down the brightness a bit.Avoid fatty, high carbohydrate food. You know how you feel after a big meal? Falling into a food coma would not be helpful! Asylum Seekers Free Essays

Imagine you live in a country with an oppressive government and even worse your enthnic group is being persecuted by that government, would you not want to leave even if it means selling all your possessions? This is a scenario faced by thousands of people every year who are classed as asylum seekers. Brindha, the 9 year old Tamil asylum seeker who on a crowded boat off the Indonesian coast, made a heartbreaking plea to Australian journalists to please save them, the prime minister delivered a cold reply: â€Å"I make absolutely no apology whatsoever for taking a hard line on illegal immigration to Australia. The 253 asylum seekers – not illegal immigrants – on that boat had sacrificed everything they had to make a desperate bid for safety from the systematic slaughter being wrought on them by the Sri Lankan government. We will write a custom essay sample on Asylum Seekers or any similar topic only for you Order Now They are fleeing a situation where the Sri Lankan government is killing 1400 a week of the 300,000 detained in concentration camps. This is a horror that drives people to flee with nothing other than the clothes on their back, is what politicians and media have taken to calling a â€Å"push factor. There is absolutely nothing illegal about seeking asylum, about arriving without authorisation or papers, or about coming by unregistered boats as long as there is a legitimate reason states the United Nations. However the Australian Government still labels them illegal immigrants and places them in Detention Centres which in most cases results in the emotional and psychological damage to a refugee. In 2002, the Medical Journal of Australia described the extreme psychological and emotional damage done to people detained in immigration detention in Australia. The pattern they describe includes â€Å"the development of a psychological state characterised by severe depression, despair, hopelessness, paranoia, chronic rage, persecutory delusions, sub-syndromal psychosis, characterological change and persistent self harming behaviour†. In their sample, â€Å"all but one of the detained asylum seekers displayed symptoms of psychological distress at some time during their period of detention†. Eighty-five per cent had â€Å"chronic depressive symptoms† and sixty-five per cent had â€Å"pronounced ongoing suicidal ideation†. Refugees should not have to stay in conditions conducive to mental disorders and suicidal tendencies. If the Australian government wishes to fix the problem they should fix detention centres, make the facilities more humane and turn off the electric fence,( The electric fences around such centres are more harmful than that of Auschwitz concentration camp). The government should also provide faster processing of refugees so these people are not subjected to what is incarceration with committing a crime. In 2002 protesters tore down the fences of Woomera Detention Centre, assisting people inside to make a courageous and inspiring breakout. They would not hesitate to do it again. Asylum seeking is an issue that cuts right to the heart of everything that’s rotten and inhumane about capitalism – its racism, its hypocrisy, its brutality and its utter contempt for humanity. We should all stand firmly for the rights of asylum seekers. How to cite Asylum Seekers, Essay examples

Jazz Music Essay Thesis Example For Students

Jazz Music Essay Thesis What is Jazz? According to the dictionary, jazz is defined as, A kind ofsyncopated, highly rhythmic music originated by Southern blacks in the late 19thcentury (Jazz 232). But, everyone should at least agree that jazz isthe mother of all music, and is referred to as the only art form originating inthe United States (History 101 2). America was home to immigrants from allover Europe and beyond who wished to build a new life, or just needed to escapefrom the old. These people, often thought of as second-class, brought theirculture with them to America, expressed it musically, and changed the musicworld as we know it today. Most early jazz was played in small marching bands orby solo pianists. Besides ragtime and marches, the repertoire included hymns, spirituals, and blues. The bands played this music at picnics, weddings, parades, and funerals. Characteristically, the bands played hymns on the way tofunerals and lively marches on the way back. Although blues and ragtime hadarisen indepe ndently of jazz, and continued to exist alongside it, these genresinfluenced the style and forms of jazz and provided important vehicles for jazzimprovisation. Around the turn of the 20th century, the earliest fullydocumented jazz style emerged, centered in New Orleans, Louisiana. This city isoften called the cradle of jazz (History 101 3). In this style, thetrumpet carried the melody, the clarinet played showy countermelodies, and thetrombone played rhythmic slides and sounded the root notes of chords or simpleharmony. Below this basic trio, the tuba or string bass provided a bass line anddrums the rhythmic accompaniment. New Orleans jazz was just the beginning of anentire sweep across the county. The first true virtuoso soloist of jazz wasLouis Armstrong. He was a dazzling improviser, technically, emotionally, andintellectually. He changed the format of jazz by bringing the soloist to theforefront, and in his recording groups, the Hot Five and the HotSeven (Porter 2), demonstrated that jazz improvisation could go far beyondsimply ornamenting the melody. He became the first well known male jazz singer, and also set standards for all later jazz singers, by creating scat singing:singing meaningless syllables instead of words, not unlike instrumentalimprovisation. During the 1920s, large groups of jazz musicians began to playtogether, forming the big bands that became so popular in the 1930s and early1940s, (the swing era). The development of the big band can be majorly creditedto the achievement of Duke Ellington and his revolutionary song, It DontMean a Thing If It Aint Got That Swing (Jazz Music 54). This soonbecame the new word for music played with a happy, relaxed beat. A new stylealso started in the early 1940s when a group of musicians startedexperimenting with more complicated chord patterns and melodic ideas. This groupincluded trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, alto saxophonist Charlie Parker, andpianists Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell. This new approach becam e known asbebop, or bop. Most bop musicians had exceptional techniques that enabled themto play long, dazzling phrases with many notes. In the 1940s and 1950s,jazz began to lose its reputation as a lowdown music, and gainedacceptance among intellectuals and college students. Jazz concerts becamepopular. Duke Ellington and other big band leaders gave many concerts, and agroup of improvising musicians made a series of nationwide tours called Jazzat the Philharmonic (Jazz Music 56). Jazz music was revolutionary andis still changing and improving, even today. The music world today would not bethe same without the influence of these amazing and breathtaking musicians. General Armstrong Custer essays

General Armstrong Custer essays Custer Didnt Dies For Your Sins, Sitting Bull Did In Custer Died For Your Sins, Vine Deloria, Jr. uses his sarcastic and satirical tone to reveal many falsehoods and stereotypes of Native American culture. He also uses his satirical tone to denote those who have clainmed heritage that is obviously not theirs. Deloria wasnted to make it a point to tell young Natives to find their own identity and not let an expert do it for them. Throughout American culture, Native Americans have been the most falsely represented subset of Americas population. They have been identified with the aura of the savage warrior...and the instinctive animal (3). American folklore presents the existince of Native Americans to the world as violent savages and dimensional primitives. Even being called an Indian is a little appaling, even to the minority of Native Americans. The lack of a tropical climate and the absense of elephents apperently did not tip off the [Spanish] explorers that they were not in India(5). The Native Americans are and have always been in a constant struggle to defend their identities and land. The confusion and stereotypes from another culture does not lighten the load of their struggle. The claiming of Indian heritage was nonexistent until the Native American culture was found to have some sort of significance to the devopment of the United States and its culture. After being of European descent became boring, having some sort of blood tie with the frontier...in order to experience what it means to be an American(4) guaranteed them the satisfaction of being as American as apple pie. Native Americans are, again, put into a position where they have to defend their identities and land from those who want to claim it as theirs. Non-natives also make an attempt to claim Native American heritage. When they claim it most of them claim it on their grandmothe...

Religious terrorists are modern manifestations of historical Essay

Religious terrorists are modern manifestations of historical traditions of extremism - Essay Example will evaluate various literature and research already carried out, which examines religiously stimulated violence and terrorism by Christian, Jewish as well as Islamic extremists. Efforts to better understand the root causes of different types of religious political violence have been carried out through studies. They give hope that they might provide an opening for a more productive negotiations between political and various religious leaders of all faiths on ways to minimize religiously stimulated terrorism. Religious terrorism is an act of violence, which is influenced by religious beliefs. Mostly, the perpetrators commit the violent act based on their personal goals, which may or may not necessarily value other people’s values and beliefs. They also believe that their actions are justified due to their belief that it is for a greater good. However, this is not always the case. History redirects to the significant role that religion play in political and social change. All around the world, there are various instances of faith-grounded and faith-stimulated persons, groups and associations. Current examples include the high prominence of the African church with its leaders during the anti-apartheid fight in South Africa. Another example is the liberty theologians of Latin American republics who got involved in societal reorganization and political action in reaction to the human need and social discriminations they witnessed around them (Cherribi, 2009). Although there exists quite a number of religious activities that were meant to fight for the better good of a population, there are, however many instances that prove otherwise. In these cases, their activities tend to be selfish and only advocate for the good a smaller group that shares the same interests. Therefore, I consider it to be a constructive way of change. A particular religious group can be perceived to be extremist or terrorist, if and when its actions instill direct or indirect harm to the

Challenges for SMEs in Vietnam and Korea

Challenges for SMEs in Vietnam and Korea Recommendations for the government/policy makers Properly aware and assess the roles of SMEs and start-up firms in the national economy system The Korean government soon realized the roles of SMEs, especially start-up firms in economic reform after the financial crisis is 1997. They published some Law and Regulations on SMEs support since the end of the Korean War, some of which are the SMEs Bank Law (July 1961) and the SMEs Cooperation Law (December 1961). In addition, the governmental institutions and banks to support SMEs were born really soon, they were able to merge into a comprehensive and trustworthy â€Å"system† to maintain the health of SMEs. This reflects the early awareness of the Korean government in the roles of SMEs. In Vietnam, the roles of new enterprises need to be further considered. Besides the measures to enhance the performance of state-owned enterprises, we need to have intensive measures to support SMEs, especially start-up firms because they are the strategic instrument in economic growth. Obviously, when joining WTO – an international playground, SMEs in Vietnam in its current state w ill find it hard to compete.. To fully aware of the condition as well as roles of these enterprises, we need to conduct surveys and researches to find out at which proportion SMEs have contributed to the country’s GDP and other growth indexes. Further, we based on these indexes to evaluate the potential and at what extent the establishment of new firms can reinforce the growth rate of the economy as a whole. Create a suitable environment for SMEs and start-up firms Since the very beginning state of economic reform, regulations concerning SMEs and start-ups activities were clearly and specifically declared. They were also improved through times to adapt to the economic and social conditions of each time phase. Besides the synchronized legal environment, they also own a set of solutions for SMEs: since they start the business till dismissal. The Korean government always tries to create favorable business environment for the growth of start-up firms and SMEs. To minimize the gap between chaebol firms and start-up firms, the government established many institutions and associations to support start-ups firms, namely SMBA, SMBC, KOTEC†¦ as well as provide guarantee for these firms to receive funds from commercial banks with preferential interest rates. When SMEs encounter hardship during operation, the government also comes up with business incubators to help them overcome problems by legal consulting, opening fairs, malls to increase the chanc e of trading and finding business partners. For any nation in the world, favorable business environment is the basic factor, not only for SMEs, but also for big corporations to grow. Vietnam is no exception. Nowadays in Vietnam, the business environment is thriving more than ever before. Business law, finance law, credit monetary trading, labor situation have been improved a lot with the foundation, adjustment, supplement of the Business Code 2005, Investment Code 2005, State Bank Code and Credit Institutions Code 2003†¦ These Codes basically have no discrimination among different business sectors. Moreover, we also have other regulations concerning the operation of SMEs, namely Official Letter No. 681/CP-KTN on June, 26th 1998 by the Government Office on strategies orientation and SMEs development policies, Decree No. 90/2001/ND-CP on November, 23rd 2001 on support SMEs. These regulations only emphasize on the most basic matters and have yet compete or consistent. Also, the management level is still not flexible in apply ing those regulations, leading to redundancy in procedures and confusion in dealing with the legal system. Discrimination between big corporations and SMEs is another factor with negative impact on the business environment. Although the policies of the government clearly state that all business sectors needed to be equally treated, there still exists discrimination from some government officials in bank loans, access to preferential policies, land use, information access on exporting market, staff training Moreover, the social environment also has trong impact on business operation of highly sensitive firms like start-ups and SMEs. That is because there still exists some obsolete prejudice on these firms such as counterfeited goods, smuggling or commercial fraud. Support start-up firms in terms of financing It is safe to say that funds is the most severe problem for entrepreneurs when starting their own business. There are already countless enterprises each year failing to come alive or going bankrupt since the very beginning of operation due to lack of capital. Therefore, support from the government is highly essential for SMEs, especially start-up firms. These support can be implemented by a number of ways, suggested as below: Develop finance investment firms and establish credit guarantee funds It is clear that we soon need to establish credit guarantee funds for SMEs and start-up firms, for them to access to finance when they do not have enough resources for mortgage, pledge, or lend from banks and credit unions as raised in Decree 90/2001. The credit guarantee funds like KCGF, KOTEC and SMBC in Korea are able to guarantee start-up firms for short-term, mid-term and long-term loans for the feasible ideas and business projects. At the same time, they share risks with credit institutions in case of default risk from SMEs The lessons from Korea and other developed countries like America, Taiwan show that credit guarantee is considered one of the most effective measures to improve the capital of an enterprise, and Vietnamese enterprises are no exception Loosen the lending requirements Our government should adjust policies on mortgages for loans. Currently, most start-up firms find it hard to access to commercial bank funds because they own no or little assets. In addition, the requirements on mortgage is too high to meet. One example is most commercial banks use land use right as mortgage, which is quite impossible to afford for these types of firms. The recommendation for this is, in some specific cases, banks can assess the potential and value of feasible business projects to minimize their risks. Banks in Vietnam can learn from KOTEC in Korea, where they have a set of technical and commercial criteria to rate a firm before providing funds. Firms guaranteed by KOTEC also have higher chance to survive in the long run, which means their assessment is highly effective and we can learn a lot from their system. Besides, venture investment funds should be encouraged to grow, especially foreign investment funds. Expand forms of financial lease Expanding forms of financial lease is a useful solution for firms to overcome their own problems on financing for technology. Financial lease is an intermediate form of long-term credit, where those demanding funds do not receive cash to purchase equipment and asset but directly receive the demanded asset. The leasee periodically pays fee and buys the whole asset after a specific amount of time. However, in Vietnam, both the government and enterprises have yet aware the strength of this form, so it has not been fully developed. According to the studies â€Å"SMEs development process† of the Development Loan Program for SMEs in Vietnam, there currently exists many obstacles in developing financial lease: (i) lack of legal procedures, regulations and policies for this matter. The funds of the leasors are also very limited due to the strict regulations of the State Bank of Vietnam, (ii) the enterprises are still short in full knowledge and awareness of this practice’s adva ntages, (iii) lack of complete agreement between the leasors and the government as the base to develop policies on this. Towards the current state as mentioned above, the government needs to look into and adjust the regulations to ensure a competitive yet favorable business environment for the financial lease corporations, which can solve the financing problem for SMEs. Develop other financial services Commercialize the debt market: Currently, corporations have increasingly appropriate funds of others, making lots of SMEs fall into the â€Å"artificial funds shortage† situation. Sometimes, commercial banks have to hold loans but cannot receive principal before maturity date. Commercializing debts will help SMEs escape from the pressure of variable capital, for instance, through discounting financial instruments like negotiable certificate of deposit. In many other countries in the world, this practice is quite popular but it is fairly new for enterprises in Vietnam Boost the performance of financial institutions: we can do this by increasing the equity of credit institutions, creating capacity to improve performance and adapt to risks. Simultaneously, they can completely handle overdue debts by developing mortgage handling enterprises and buying back mortgages, collateral from commercial banks. This research applies a remote-monitored system towards the financial markets on the basis of international standards. Encourage the growth of financial consulting services, accounting, auditing and related services for financial problems of SMEs Preferential tax, charges policy The government can also establish more preferential policies for SMEs on credit, tax in a simple way. We should also avoid excessive yet inefficient tax policies, which leads to difficulties in manage and implement those policies. Recommendations for start-up firms/SMEs Build their own finance capabilities Besides the government policies and support on finance, start-up firms also need to take advantage of this opportunity or else it will go to waste. Currently, the roles of SMEs and start-up firms are gradually realized by the government and the society. The social development strategy nowadays also pays special attention to SMEs. Therefore, those firms need to take good advantage of these chances. In the meantime, start-up firms can have easy access to the credit funds from banks, financial institutions, financial lease firms The enterprises can also increase their funds by seizing investment opportunities from other sources. Through the foundation of feasible and persuasive business plans, firms can entirely raise funds from venture investment funds or crowd-funding. By cooperating with other firms, SMEs can enhance their manufacturing process by solving the obstacles together with each other, best exploiting their capacity and cooperation, developing the domestic and foreign business network, as well as jointly combating the competitive pressure from big corporations. Raise their management capacity SMEs need to have their own business strategies to enhance the human resources and management capacity in a global economic context. One of the weaknesses of SMEs in Vietnam is the human resources problems. They lack properly trained labor to meet the requirements of technology application, foreign language, business knowledge, Internet access†¦ The business management system is pretty obsolete and incomprehensive. Therefore, business owner and the management level need to apply modern management system, focusing on knowledge on market, the legal system, technology application and building their own business culture and ethics: honest about the products, fair competition, compliance with the law, responsible for the customers and the society, and build trust with the customers. For the labor force, we need to have scheme to train them properly with the most update techniques and information possible. The enterprises also need plans to attract highly-trained employees by their salary, bonus, allowance, promotion†¦ policies. Besides, strong business culture is also necessary to establish and develop. Actively access technology Firms on their own should actively seek new opportunities to get access to new technology and equipment. Then, they can flexibly apply technology transfer to create more added value. Also, focusing on developing technology infrastructure to apply e-commerce business is popular in the recent years. On material, one way to exploit this is to make full use of the global sources of material, another is to consider using existing materials, which means diversity and stability sources of materials for manufacturing. On technology, SMEs need to go in full swing and use their existing dynamic spirit to grasp and seize rare opportunities on technology. One huge obstacle for enterprises in this matter is limited capital, however, as mentioned, SMEs have many ways out. They can use the government support, cooperate with other larger firms, transfer from foreign enterprises, participate in science fairs†¦ In specific, SMEs need to construct and develop their own information infrastructure to push information technology application and apply e-commerce. Investing in these is proved to cost reasonably but bring high efficiency. It can saves energy and cost for an enterprise, which lifts the management efficiency but at the same time, it can quickly grasp and exploit the market’s information, helping the business activities more professional and flexible. Focus on market research, export promotion, brand and image building Focusing in market research Start-up firms and SMEs need to vigorously improve on market research after Vietnam has joined WTO. Only thorough and detailed market research brings a well-rounded business plan. In the context where resources and capabilities is limited, they need to cooperate with the authority and government in pushing e-commerce, searching for market information through the Internet, as well as joining in knowledge sharing in different prestigious association. Enhance brand investment Almost SMEs in Vietnam are not fully aware of the importance of brand building and protection. In the next few year, when we penetrate more into the global economy, this can be a huge risks as there will certainly be many more conflict and disputes on brand. Therefore, SMEs need to have their own strategy for brand right now. Those enterprises need to have well-rounded knowledge about brand. Training for staff to aware of the importance of brand and reputation is vital. In the global context as it is today, when the brand of SMEs in Vietnam have yet owned a strong position in the domestic and international market, support from the government and other large corporations in brand building in of great importance. Ignoring this stage in the business plan means they actively put themselves in difficult situation later. Their competitors may use this to destroy the company. Actively apply international standards in business activities As analyzed, one of the biggest challenges for SMEs in Vietnam to penetrate into the international market is the international trade standards. Every countries and trade organizations in the world have their own set of regulations concerning the products’ standards. During the integration process, it is compulsory that start-up firms and SMEs in Vietnam should compel with these regulations. The lessons from Korea shows that, applying international standards in manufacturing and trading helps raise the export volume of SMEs in this countries. Therefore, it is essential for enterprises to actively apply these standards in their business activities. Depending on the requirements, the selected countries’ rules and the firm’s capacity, the firms can freely choose the standards like TQM, ISO 9000, HACCP, GMP, ISO 14000, SA 8000†¦ Besides, we need to understand and adapt to standards in hygiene, safety, rules on packing and marking†¦ These international standards can be an obstacle for SMEs in Vietnam in the short run but they will definitely bring practical value for them, helping them to strongly thrive in this most stable way.

Humorous Wedding Speech by the Groom :: Wedding Toasts Roasts Speeches

Humorous Wedding Speech by the Groom The groom has used the wedding date as a source for funny lines, comparing their marriage with celebrity couples for comic effect. While preparing this speech I thought it would be interesting to see if any celebrity couples had been married on the same day as us. Paul Simon and Carrie Fisher wed in 1983...and split up after 9 months. Oh dear. Also, Madonna married Sean Penn on this day in 1985; and we all know the outcome of that. Unlike the latter, while Lisa is "Like A Virgin," I plan to "Cherish" her forever and I am not afraid to 'Justify My Love." There's always the "Hanky Panky" to look forward to. There are children present, so the less said about "Get into the Groove" the better. We have been together for nearly ten years, and it's been the happiest decade of my life. We first got together at a Halloween party, where she was dressed up as a witch's cat and I was dressed as a crazy axe murderer, I was instantly smitten with that kitten I can tell you. She stuck with me through my scabby student days, and she's even managed to suffer living with me for five years. At home, we’re the perfect team - I mess up the house and she tidies. I affectionately call her my Mrs. Mop. In 1998 I popped the question, so like Elvis's toilet door Twenty-five years ago, we've been engaged for a long time. Today she's made me the happiest man on earth, she's my bride and joy. And I think you'll all agree she's done a superb job organizing today almost single-handed. Leadership Skills Essay

Introduction Leaders have difficult getting relevant feedback, especially when operating in powerful positions in an organization. Often times leaders need feedback more than others do. If leaders do not receive feedback, they will not learn from their leadership experiences. Creating opportunities to get feedback is critical especially with regard to feedback from individuals working for them (Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes, 2009). When it comes to open door policy leaders should not think they have open request for feedback. The oversight frequently made by leaders is assuming that other recognize them open to discussing things just because they are open to discussing things (Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes, 2009). Leadership skills can be look at as competencies that has learned and developed for an effective leadership. From the basis of people skills, a leader skill approach is as an extension to leadership traits, given that traits focuses on the character risks of a leader and to large extent (Curphy , Ginnett, & Hughes, 2009). Leader’s obligations are not determined on observations of what leaders do, but on what goals they anticipated to achieve. Researchers have focused on the personality, physical traits, and behaviors of the leader. Some have studied the relationships between leaders and followers. Others have studied how aspects of the situation affect the ways leaders act. Latter viewpoint suggest there is no such thing as leadership; there have been arguments that organizational successes and failures frequently get falsely attributed to the leader, nevertheless, situation seem to have a much better impact on how the organization functions than does any individual, as well as the leader (Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes, 2009). The purpose of this paper is to explain how leadership skills are necessary for an individual to be an effective leader. In addition, discuss how these leadership skills will lead to technical competence by a leader. Evaluate the skills against my own skills. Develop a plan detailing how I will acquire and or strengthen these skills as I progress in my future. Leadership Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes defined leadership as â€Å"the process of influencing an organized group toward accomplishing its goals† (2009, p. 6). Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes say a way to understand the complexities of leadership is to see some other ways leadership is define: †¢Directing and coordinating the work of group members †¢An interpersonal relation in which others comply because they want to, not because they have to. †¢The process of influencing an organized group toward accomplishing its goals. Some definitions hold opposing views in numerous ways, and have resulted in various researches explore very different aspects of leadership. Researchers who define leadership as influencing an organized group toward accomplishing its goals would examine how Parrado managed to convince the group to stage and support the final expedition Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes (2009, p.4-5). Concepts of Leadership Process leadership is carry out by applying leader’s knowledge and skills. However, leader traits can influence others actions. This is call trait leadership, leaders were believe to born rather than made (Jago, 1982). Three Leadership Skills To be a sufficient leader countless qualities and skills are need. Nevertheless, there are nine essential traits or abilities reveal leaders from followers and they include someone who has influential, prioritized, integrative, a creator positive change, a problem solver, able to maintain good attitude, able to work with people, a visioning person, and be self-disciplined. I will only talk about three of the nine (Gupta, 2009). First, influence is important because in order to obtain followers you have to have the influence ability. Effective leaders have to understand what type of leader they are. According to the writer, there are five levels of leadership. Level one uses their title or position to lead. This level is the slightest effective because people follow you because they have to. Level two gets people to work for them that are not required to do so (Gupta, 2009). This level is lead by interrelationships in which each person or thing depends on or is affected by the others and at this level people will follow because they want to. Level three makes results and transform take place. At this level, individuals follow you based on what you have done for the organization. Level four empowers and motivates others as well  as themselves. At this level, individuals follow leaders based on what you have done for them. Level five is where leaders have proven themselves a true leader over the years. At this level, individuals follow because of who you are and what you represent. When influencing others its good to know where you stand in leadership the higher up the ladder you go, the longer it takes to go to the next level (Gupta, 2009). Second, integrity is an important trait in order to run a business leader to be complete and unified and employees should on the same page. Integrity is who leaders are and who leaders are determines what they do. When leaders can be depend on by others, with confidence and trust they will have in their vision, and this allows them to influence their lives. Integrity secret is growing and moving. Leaders need to exhibit: honesty, fulfillment, vision, and inspiration to get them to believe and trust in the decisions they make for the business (Gupta, 2009). Third, problem solving is important in a leader because problems are on going. Leaders’ responsibility is to correct the problem as effectively as possible. Perspective is something leaders have to change however, not their problem. Leaders need to understand they cannot choose their problem but their attitude towards solving the can be change. Leaders need to recognize a problem before it gets bigger and keep an eye out for signs of any up coming ordeal and fix it. For a problem to be, fix a leader need to define the problem. After the leader recognize the problem the best possible out come should be lastly, form principles and polices to prevent the problem form requiring (Gupta, 2009). As I progress in my future, I would strengthen these skills with the Hogan and Warrenfelz domain model watch allows me to see connections between seemingly different organizational competency models and make predictions about how easy or complex it will be to change a mixture of leadership behaviors and skills. The Hogan and Warrenfelz model will also point out what behaviors I will need to exhibit in order to build my team as well as get results through others Curphy, Ginnett, & Hughes (2009, p. 273-274). In closing, leadership qualities include several of the diverse skills and the qualities. Leadership skills are necessary for any interested individuals to succeed. Leadership skills take time, energy and commitment. Leaders become the best leader they can become, all the traits and skills need to be practice and applied to ones life. Leaders are needed without there dreams of a better  world and drive to succeed. Being influential, a problem solver and integrative will bring out the leader within a person allow them to become successful, and allow them to touch others lives. Reference Gupta, A. Bianca Wright Fontley Corrodus Sociology September 11, 2014 Observing and describing verbal and nonverbal communication Communication, the act or process of using words, sounds signs or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., to someone else. (Merriam Webster dictionary). There are four forms of communication; verbal, non-verbal, written and visual. Verbal communication, includes sounds, words, language, and speaking. The following is a great example of verbal communication. While eating dinner with my family at a Japanese steakhouse I was able to hear and observe a couples conversation taken place from the booth behind†¦show more content†¦While this conversation was taken place I also noticed facial expressions, which is a gesture executed by using facial muscles. Below is an example of how both gestures and facial expression are both used during a nonverbal conversation. Previously while at the library, I observed two gentlemen having a conversation, although I could hear the conversation I was unable to see it, while observing I noticed one gentlemen handing the other a dollar bill which made the gentlemen smile. From my observation I assumed that the gentlemen who received the money may have asked the gentlemen for a dollar possibly to get a cold refreshment, Being that he just got off of his bicycle in nearly 100 degree weather. From my observation I was able to conclude the guys were friends or possibly acquaintances. I was able to form a thesis, the guy smiled because his friend gave him a dollar bill. In conclusion, communication helps us better understand an individual or situation. Communication enables us to resolve differences, build friendships and trust. Could you imagine the world without communication? Imagine having generations all over the world which would have to learn everything from scratch, this is what would happen without any communication.
